WordPressIn the last few weeks I’ve received a lot of enquiries for new WordPress websites as well as Joomla & Drupal and the common question always is what’s the difference and which one is better.

So I am taken upon myself to explain in this blog the three best open source systems I use for content management solutions, WordPress, Joomla & Drupal.

    Let’s start with WordPress…..

WordPress is an excellent system for getting your message and content onto the web quickly. WordPress is most often used as a blog as it was originally intended to be, however it can be configured to work in many other interesting ways as well. The key to WordPress is it is very easy to use and setup. Even novices brand new to the Internet can easily use the WordPress platform.

A lot of users will complain that it is not developer friendly and there are times that an upgrade can cause the entire site to simply disappear and modifications made previously to no longer exist.

    Drupal…

This advanced content management system more closely resembles a developer platform then a normal CMS. However being more developer friendly doesn’t make it very user friendly. There are more tags and functions that can be used in Drupal compared to WordPress & Joomla.

Drupal websites are known to act and function really well however it doesn’t always look great. Drupal would be perfect if it had a stronger usability and design interface like WordPress.

    Joomla…

I started using Joomla around 3 years ago and have become very accustomed to it. Joomla is defiantly aimed at both developers and designers. Designers will choose it because of its amazing capabilities of its engine to make websites look fantastic.  Developers love it because of its large capacity for development and customization.

The main issue is its not as flexible as Drupal is with its code, where Drupal can also run multiple websites Joomla can only run one. Compared to WordPress, Joomla is still not very user friendly as comparisons I have made with clients using both systems preferred using WordPress.

What do you think? Have you found a system that is more reliable than the others? Do you stick to using all three depending on the project that needs completing? Tell me in the comments!
