Alternative Content Management Systems to WordPress
3February 21st, 2010content management system, wordpressA content management site is a must in any website today to improve content and increase search engine optimisation success.
This usually involves creating a bespoke solution or using a ready made option such as WordPress. I’ve found through using WordPress that it can be slightly overkill for some of the basic content management system requirements.
I’ve created a framework myself for CMS systems which I can use throughout a number of projects by modifying the framework but even this becomes tiresome as a developer. Well I came across a little gem of a basic content management system this month.
Perch (http://grabaperch.com/) is a little content management system and a lean efficient solution for web designers with little technical knowledge & doesn’t require you to modify your site for the content management system.
It’s a simple smart and usable interface meaning it is very client friendly and best of all its super cheap! £35.00 + VAT per website meaning it’s a very cost effective solution as a designer and developer. You can also brand the content management system with your own brand colours & logos.
The requirements for Perch are simple and the installation process is very simple as well. Perch requires PHP5 & MYSQL 4.1 or better.
WordPress is a great publishing platform but I think from now on for simple cheap solutions you can’t go wrong with Perch for £35.00 + VAT a licence.
Benefits of Perch
- Cheap meaning higher sales margins or cheaper quotes.
- Simple & quick to setup
- Easy customer user interface
- Brandable client facing interface
- Full W3C mark-up, XHTML, HTML 4, HTML5
- Runs on open source PHP & MYSQL
- Great Support.
I would be really interested to hear anyone else who has started using Perch?
